Theo Paphitis’ SBS Event 2022

ManDad Media Ltd. wins coveted award from Theo Paphitis.

Small Business Sunday, shortened to the hashtag #SBS on Twitter, was created by Theo Paphitis in October 2010 and is one of the leading small business communities in the UK.

Each week, Theo rewards small businesses that tweet him @TheoPaphitis and describe their businesses in one tweet, including the all-important hashtag #SBS. Only tweets made in the time slot between 5.00 PM and 7.30 PM each Sunday count. Entries via Instagram will be available soon.

Every Monday night at 8pm, Theo reviews and chooses his favourite lucky six, who are then re-tweeted. As he has around 500k followers, this provides a massive boost to the selected lucky businesses.

ManDad Media Ltd. was selected by Theo on 28th November 2021 and, as a result, invited along with all the other winners to the SBS annual Event at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham, which took place on Friday 25th Feb 2022.

Theo hosted the event – a glamorous networking opportunity, with photo ops, breakout sessions, sponsor stands, goodie bags, competitions, presentations, and the fantastic ‘fireside chat’ – this year’s guest was none other than Touker Suleyman, a fellow Dragon from the Den. The banter between the two was entertaining, and the other presentations from NatWest and Tiny Box (a Den winner) were valuable. The huge crowd at the event were treated to a buffet lunch and refreshments and got to take home a goodie bag filled with many amazing gifts.

Theo is best known for appearing on Dragons’ Den on BBC One/Two, as recently as in 2021. He is Chairman of Ryman Stationery plus Boux Avenue lingerie, Robert Dyas and London Graphic Centre. Theo says, “I admire people who have passion and energy. If you cannot bore your friends to death about your own small business, then something is seriously wrong. I was struck by the number of business owners on Twitter who wanted to tell me about their new products and services. Small Business Sunday was born so that people have a specific time slot to tweet and can pitch their ‘sell’ directly to me. My vision is that everyone who has ever won an #SBS re-tweet from me becomes part of a friendly club. Like-minded individuals can share successes and learnings. This website will give a valuable profile to the winners chosen to date and should help those who have not yet won but want some tips on how to do so. You will find news about the latest winners plus events and activities of interest”.

To date, 450,000 small businesses have applied, with just 0.8% making the cut. The SBS community is now 3,500 enterprises strong. Theo says, “I know I have been lucky in business, and I am keen now to spread goodwill to others, of course not forgetting that very often, you make your own luck by making use of every opportunity.”

ManDad Media’s CEO, Lordë De Laurentiis attended the big event on Friday 25th and enjoyed the opportunity to grab a photo with Theo Paphitis whilst being presented with a winners certificate. Lordë said, “It was a huge honour to be selected by Theo back in November and really exciting to attend the event in Birmingham. I met with some amazing people and thoroughly enjoyed the presentations and fireside chat; both Theo and Touker are inspirational businessMen. My aim is to grow ManDad Media Ltd. and to place a copy of ManDad Magazine in the hands of every Dad in the UK.”
